5-inch versus 6-inch K-style is a calculation, not a preference. Roof area, pitch, and local rainfall intensity determine what will actually keep up. An undersized gutter overflows no matter how clean it is.
The run has to fall toward the downspouts at the right rate, and the hangers have to be spaced to prevent sag under a full load of water and ice. Sag creates standing water, and standing water creates failure.
